Between the 40th anniversary of The Transformers movie & the passing of Peter Cullen, I thought it was appropriate to put out this cover of “Ancient Wisdom” from the G1 soundtrack, originally composed & conducted by Johnny Douglas & Robert J. Walsh.
Covering my favorite track from the OST is just my way of paying homage to that age-old tale about shapeshifting alien machines fighting a civil war across the galaxy for hundreds of thousands of millennia.
“Ancient Wisdom” was featured prominently in the third season of The Transformers TV show. Set in 2005, following the events of The Transformers: The Movie, the show’s OST departed from the jazz, funk, and more traditional orchestral themes of the first two seasons, and leaned into a more synth-heavy approach, creating a futuristic sonic backdrop for the ongoing battles between the Autobots & Decepticons.
Borrowing elements from Vince DiCola’s “Unicron Attacks”, “Ancient Wisdom” was often heard whenever Galvatron hatched a new scheme, when Rodimus Prime and Ultra Magnus unveiled their tactical strategy, or when the duplicitous Quintessons plotted their next double-cross.
